Stella & Ed's Wedding
Ed and Stella contacted me a year ago looking to shoot their October wedding...but their plans were trumped by their beautiful girl Lucia Ella who I photographed almost 2 mos ago!
Wedding was yesterday, started out at their home in Parsippany (Ed and I took in a little MetallicA) and would up at the Highlawn Pavilion in West Orange. They do a great job decorating the HLP for the holidays!
The wedding was an intimate affair for family that are friends and friends that are family...less than 50 people in the HLP's cool wine cellar room. Music provided by the excellent Lounge Cricket. Their cover of The Georgia Satellites' "Keep Your Hands to Yourself", with Ed on vocals was one of the highlights of the night!
Lots of sweet moments, and teary eyes...the love was strong in the room.

Future Miss New Mexico!
My friend Joan Marie Yazze-Gallegos is going to compete in the Miss New Mexico pageant and is going to use my head shot in her book! Shot w her for the 2nd time in July 2011 in ABQ. These pix were taken on the edge of a parking lot because I loved the flowers and how great Joan looked in front of them!
While we were shooting, lots bees were flying around and I had to convince her that Apis mellifera (common honeybee) is not aggressive. Joan was a pro and although not comfortable you'd never know by looking at these photos!
Cut it up a few ways for her in a 4x5 aspect ratio. The landscape images are the best but she needs to submit a vertical photo.

We also took a bunch of photos standing in the Rio Grande at sunset while she was wearing a shimmery blue dress. I will post a few of those if there is some interest here.

My Newborn Skin Adobe Lightroom 4 Preset

After shooting and editing thousands of newborn baby photos the past 2 years, I have been able to create and refine a preset that works quite well light-skinned n00bs. Typically newborns are pretty ruddy especially when they get agitated. I suspect they have a rich surface capillary network that allows them (when in utero) to draw in warmth from the amniotic fluid that surrounds them.These capillaries are a liability when out of that environment into air as they can lose body heat fast.
When I shoot newborns I tell the parents to make the room we will be shooting in uncomfortably warm for adults --and I bring shorts to change into when I shoot so I am comfortable. Even in a very warm room, you keep the baby covered up and warm, uncover and shoot for a minute or two, they start to cry, wrap them up for a few minutes and repeat repeatedly. I need to let the parents know this is the way it is going to go as otherwise they can get stressed feeling that they are wasting your time or that you are getting impatient.
